At Success Academies, a large component of what we do revolves around the academic side of education, but our approach is equally rooted in nurturing, scientifically-informed pastoral care. Pastoral Support

Here are some excellent UK-based organisations and digital helplines that Success Academies Ltd can direct students and parents to for pastoral, emotional, and mental health support:

Shout (Text support): A free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging service for anyone struggling to cope. Students can text "SHOUT" to 85258 to be connected with a trained volunteer who can help them move from a moment of high anxiety or crisis to a calm place.

Childline: A classic, trusted resource for children and young people under 19. They offer free, confidential support over the phone (0800 1111) or via a 1-2-1 secure online live chat on their website, which is highly accessible for distance learners.

Kooth: An anonymous, safe digital mental health community specifically for children and young people. It provides online peer support, articles written by young people, and the ability to text-chat with qualified counsellors. (Note: Availability via local NHS funding varies by region, so students just need to enter their postcode on the site to check access).

The Mix: Aimed at young people under 25, The Mix offers support on everything from mental health and relationships to exam stress and loneliness. They have a free helpline (0808 808 4994), a crisis messenger text service (text THEMIX to 85258), and discussion boards.

Careers Advice

For students who are electively home educated (EHE) in the UK, navigating career pathways can sometimes feel a bit isolating since they don’t have access to a traditional school's internal careers advisor.

However, there are excellent, dedicated services and statutory provisions available to help them explore their next steps.

Here are the primary careers services and resources tailored for home-educated students.

The National Careers Service (NCS): This is a free, government-backed service available to anyone in England aged 13 or older. Students can use the online web chat or call a professional advisor directly (0800 100 900) for impartial advice on exam choices, CV building, and local training routes.

Youth Employment UK (Home Education Hub): They have a completely free, dedicated Home Education Course designed specifically for EHE students. It includes interactive digital modules, explainer videos, and downloadable workbooks that help young people explore their strengths, understand the UK labor market, and learn how to find employment or apprenticeships.

Careerpilot (Home Educated Section): A highly structured, free resource that maps out pathways specifically for students learning from home. It provides tailored guidance on how to sit private GCSEs/A-Levels, how to use tools like the Skills Profile to translate independent learning into workplace skills, and how to find distance-learning university modules.

Home Education Futures: A specialised online platform packed with free tools, guides, and articles explicitly geared toward helping home-educating parents and young people navigate apprenticeships, work experience, and setting up a business.
